Biden: Some Gun Control By Executive Fiat

Vice President Joe Biden made it clear today that the President has many options in the upcoming gun control debate saying, “There are executive orders, executive action that can be taken.”  He went on to imply that action is key to getting things done: “it’s critically important that we act.”  The word “action” struck me, having once read Jonah Goldberg’s Liberal Fascism — for the statist, it is very important to keep things in motion, constantly moving from crisis to crisis as a way to steadily wear the people into complacency and acquiescence.  Words mean things to me.

When crafting gun laws, we’re often too reactionary and therefore sloppy.  Introducing executive fiat into the process won’t help and may aggravate the situation in unforeseen ways.  Gun owners are stockpiling not out of fear of their neighbor, but out of fear of Uncle Sam. Best if someone on the Hill figures that out before there’s trouble.

Darkly, I think this whole approach is the long way around.  If the progressive left ultimately wants to ban guns in American (minus the guns of those whose job it is to protect those members of the progressive left, of course), just get the EPA to declare the CO2 emitted from firing guns as an environmental threat and ban bullets.  Go ahead — keep your guns, but we’re banning bullets!  Sounds silly, but nothing from the left would surprise me these days.
