Steven Crowder Defends Marriage

Steven Crowder recently got married and wrote a piece about the benefits of marriage aimed at those who keep bad-mouthing it.  In the article he lays out the top five reasons to embrace marriage:  more household income, avoiding the single-mom wealth gap, having more sex, being more productive in general, all while living longer.  Sounds like a great deal!

Crowder has also ripped on those who view the institution as a punchline, telling them to grow up and take responsibility for their lives and cultivate a better relationship with your wife if things are so bad.  In other words, be a man, take responsibility, and defend the decisions you make!

Amen.

I do think, however, that there are some generational differences at work.  Anecdotally, I don’t know anyone who bad-mouths his or her marriage unless prompted (and it usually sounds awkward, as if they’re just playing along) who is under the age of 40.  Maybe time is a factor in the cynicism of older folks, or maybe since younger people grew up in an age of painful divorces they want something different for themselves and children.

Either way, it’s good to see someone out there defending marriage.
