I heard an amazing news report this morning that a 2 1/2 year old child who was born with HIV has no significant trace of HIV in the child’s system! While HIV is known to hide out once compromised and can swarm right back once treatment stops, this child seems different to researchers and could pave the way for similar treatments for children born with the disease.
This is the first occasion of a “cured” HIV patient in nearly two years, since Timothy Ray Brown was cured of HIV after a bone-marrow transplant. While both cases were very rare circumstantial occasions, it is a great sign that medical science is moving in the right direction on HIV.
