If you’ve check the right side bar on AOR lately, you may have noticed that one of the books I am currently reading is Marcus Luttrell’s Lone Survivor:  An Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10.  I just finished it the other day and loved it!  It was a page-turner with a tone and sensibility that is classic US military.

All one has to do is read a synopsis of the book to know that a great movie could be made out of it.  Hollywood figured that out.  A Lone Survivor film is set for release in January.  Here’s the trailer:

This movie should stir some controversy.  Amongst other things, Luttrell takes aim at the liberal media and how its anti-war bias impacted critical battlefield decisions which led to some crazy events in the ill-fated “Operation Redwing” in June 2005.  I hope Luttrell’s Texas attitude and sensibility comes through in the film as well and doesn’t become a victim of Hollywood.  The book is great — I just hope the film lives up.
