Putin Gives Obama an Out in Syria

Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed that instead of an ill-advised US strike on Assad in Syria, Assad should just give up his chemical weapons.  Obama seems to be biting, Ban Ki Moon seems ready to rally the Security Council, and John Kerry remains haughty through it all (it was Kerry’s off-handed suggestion that got this ball rolling).

If this happens to save face for Obama but also lets the Assad regime and the radical rebels continue to fight each other without our direct military intervention, I’d say go for it.

UPDATE:  In the run up to the President’s address tonight, some already believe that Obama may claim victory and begin a great spin game.  I would expect nothing less from this President.
