Rowling’s Harry Potter Spin-Off a Go

Looks like Warner Bros. attempt to find their next Harry Potter is over!  JK Rowling and the studio are going to team up to create a series of films based on the Harry Potter universe.  While not a prequel, the storyline will follow the author of the fictional Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’s author Newt Scamander, who was mentioned in the Harry Potter series.  The events will take place about 70 years before those HP fans are familiar with.  For more in-depth coverage, Mugglenet is the place to go.

Rowling has been pretty clear that the Harry Potter story is done, minus more details about what we already know.  I’m glad she has more self-control than George Lucas about her very popular creation.  So, part of me is glad to hear that the spin-off is not directly HP related.

Another part of me thinks that if you’re going to have a Harry Potter spin-off in the past, why not follow the story of Dumbledore from his childhood leading up to his climatic battle with Grindelwald?  We got a lot of that story in Deathly Hallows, but I’m just saying that it would be undoubtedly cool on film.  I’m still not holding my breath for a TV series with Harry and Ron at the Auror Office busting up bad guys, but that would be pretty cool too.
