House GOP to Push Obamacare Defund Vote

House Speaker John Boehner finally bent to the pressure within his caucus to push for a vote to defund Obamacare, threatening a showdown with Senate Democrats and the President which could result in a government shutdown October 1.  While I’d love a full repeal, I’ll take the GOP short-term proposal which doesn’t repeal Obamacare (yet), but postpones its implementation for everyone (not just the well-connected) for a year or so.  Also, a new incarnation of a repeal-and-replace option emerged.

We’ll wait and see if any of this comes to fruition, but it sounds like the Establishment is kind of listening to their own voters!

That being said, one can imagine that President Obama wasn’t happy, even calling the Republican efforts to tie-in Obamacare with raising the debt ceiling “extortion.”  Accusing your opponents of extortion before one sits down to negotiate is not a great place to start, but we all know how well his negotiation skills have helped him lately.

UPDATETed Cruz may filibuster Obamacare funding in the Senate, which would be both awesome and an real education for many since the MSM won’t be able to avoid covering it.  However, with Boehner on board and with the conservative/Tea Party Republicans moving the agenda on Obamacare, I wonder if the Establishment is just setting up the Tea Party as a scapegoat should the impending government shutdown take place.  I wouldn’t put it past them at all.
